Uncomfortable World - James Blunt: Social media is a waste of time

Berlin (dpa) - For the singer James Blunt ("You're Beautiful"), social media are "in no way" important. "I think that's a terrible waste of time and energy," said the 45-year-old Briton to the German press agency.

"People post things on Instagram, and that makes other people feel like their lives are not so nice or insignificant." On Twitter, people just said unkind things to each other. "I think it's a really strange environment."

Blunt himself often writes ironic responses on social media. "I joke around a bit on Twitter because people are so rude to each other on Twitter." His experience in the "real" world is that - when he walks down a street, for example - people are "really nice".

This is where the irony lies, said the Briton: "When thousands of people come to my concerts and I read a nasty comment on social media - that bothers me." There is only one person - and the evening before, 5000, 10,000 or 20,000 people came to his concert. Social media are an uncomfortable world.
