Is RGB better than YCbCr
To understand what YCbCr is, the first thing to do is define the color space. If colors are to be used in digital media such as cameras and laptops, they need to be represented in numbers. Color space, also known as the color model or color system, is an abstract mathematical model that simply describes the color range in terms of numbers, typically as three or four values or color components (e.g. RGB). It consists of the colors that can be represented within the color model. Each color in the system is represented by a single point. A color space is a useful way to understand the color characteristics of a particular digital device or file. It indicates what a camera can see, a monitor can display, or a printer can print. There are a variety of color spaces, such as: B. RGB, CMY, HSV, HIS and the YCbCr discussed here.
What does the YCbCr color space stand for and what is the difference to RGB?
RGB is a simple example of a color space. This uses the red-green-blue component to represent the color. Any color can be displayed with these three components. The same principle applies to YCbCr as to RGB. Along with RGB, it is one of two basic color spaces that are used to display digital videos and photos. It is defined by a mathematical coordinate transformation from an associated RGB color space. The difference between YCbCr and RGB is that YCbCr represents color as lightness and two color signals, while RGB represents color as red, green and blue. In the acronym, Y stands for brightness (Luma), Cb is blue minus Luma (B-Y) and Cr is red minus Luma (R-Y). The color model is thus one of the brightness-chromaticity models.
Areas of application of YCbCr
The color model was originally made for digital television according to the PAL standard and is now also used for NTSC digital television. The MPEG compression used on DVDs, digital television, and video CDs is encoded in YCbCr. Digital camcorders output the color space over a digital connection such as FireWire or SDI. The color model also offers advantages in color subsampling by reducing the file size of the images. For example, a 512 x 512 image is 600 KB in size. With YCbCr, the same image only requires half of it, namely 300 KB.
