IIT Dharwad, Tirupati, Bhilai, Delhi, Palakkad and Bombay have extended the application process for PhD students in Jammu and Kashmir who were unable to apply for the PhD program within the set schedule due to the unavailability of the internet connection. The new submission dates for applications have been communicated by the IITs on their respective websites, NDTV reported. The Department of Human Resources Development (MHRD) had asked the IITs to extend the application process for J&K students after receiving inquiries from students. “Students from Jammu and Kashmir have received a number of requests to apply for doctoral programs in various IITs to extend application time given the past internet connection unavailability. All IITs were asked to kindly examine the inquiries, ”NDTV quoted the MHRD as saying in an official statement. The IIT Bombay has enabled the students of Jammu and Kashmir to show up directly for the exam process currently taking place. The IIT Tirupati, who is doing a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics, will conduct the interview for the candidates in the third week of December via Skype on Call Only. "For the shortlisted candidates, the interview will only be conducted in the 3rd week of December 2019 via Skype Call. The interview data will only be shortlisted for the shortlisted candidate," said a statement from the institute. J&K students can apply for a doctorate in IIT Tirupati no later than December 10th. Classes start on January 1st. For registration in IIT Bhilai, the final deadline for submitting applications is December 9th. IIT Delhi and IIT Dharwad have a special registration round for the students. IIT Palakkad would be accepting applications until December 17th.
