What kind of laxatives clean your colon
In the case of an enema, a doctor or someone who wants to do it himself introduces fluid through the anus into the intestine. In the case of enemas you have performed yourself, the liquid is usually body temperature water or a laxative; the doctor can - depending on the purpose of the enema - also use contrast media for x-rays or solvents with medication.
Forms of colon cleansing
A enema or Klysma is a kind of squeeze bag. You can use the system to rinse out the rectum, i.e. the anterior area of the intestine close to the anus. These colon cleansers have a liquid container. In the case of an enema, this consists of a bag or a pear-shaped bladder to which a syringe attachment is attached.
Depending on the variant, the liquid container, which as a “finished product” usually contains a laxative, holds 50 to 500 milliliters or, in the case of a micro-enema, only two to ten milliliters. There are disposable enema and those that you can use several times (after cleaning appropriately). An enema is suitable, for example, for an enema in case of constipation or to stimulate defecation.
There are also Irrigators, i.e. containers that hold more liquid and are provided with a long hose. These are suitable if you want to cleanse the higher intestinal areas, including the large intestine. In technical jargon, the flushing of the upper parts of the intestine is also called "high enema". Often people use this enema before fasting to clean the intestines of fecal residues and thus to support it in regeneration.
In addition to the enema to cleanse the colon using laxatives, there is also the colon irrigation. For this, you insert a tube into the anus and rinse the large intestine, i.e. higher-lying intestinal areas, with a large amount of water (up to 60 liters). Until it flows out again clear and without intestinal contents via a second tube. It should reach a larger intestinal area.
Many people consider colonic irrigation to be healthy because they believe, for example, it removes waste products and toxins. To date, however, there is no scientific evidence that such an enema has any health-promoting effects.
