Why can't my Facebook Messenger make calls?

What to do when video call does not go on Facebook Messenger

Someone may have experienced that a video call is unavailable on Facebook Messenger for unsafe reasons. When you call someone on Facebook Messenger, the phone rings once or twice, but then the call disconnects. It doesn't ring at all anymore. What Should You Do When Facebook Messenger Video Call Not Working? There are several possibilities for the problem.

1. Allow access to the camera

If your device won't let Facebook Messenger access the camera, your camera driver won't work when you run Facebook Messenger so a video call won't work.

If you are using an iOS device like iPhone X / 8/8 Plus / 7/7 Plus etc., you can go to “Settings” first. Then tap on “Privacy” and you will find “Camera” in it. Tap on "Camera" and find Facebook Messenger. Click on “Camera”. This allows your Facebook Messenger to use the camera.

If you have an Android device like Samsung. You can also go to Settings and then tap Apps. Next you should find “Facebook Messenger”> “Permission” and turn on the camera.

2. Allow access to microphone

In addition, you also need to turn on the microphone. With it, Facebook Messenger can create video call. It's pretty similar to Method 1.

iOS: Go to Settings> Privacy> Microphone. Then switch over the Facebook Messenger.

Android: Go to Settings> Apps> Facebook Messenger. Then tap on Permission and turn the microphone on until it turns green.

3. Check network connection

If the Facebook video call won't connect, it could be due to network issues. To troubleshoot network issues on your device, do the following:

1. You could switch between cellular data and Wi-Fi first to see if there is something wrong with the network.

2. It would be helpful to connect to a different WLAN if possible.

3. You could try resetting the network settings.

For an iOS device like iPhone 8 Plus or iPad Pro, you should:

Go to "Settings". Then tap on “General”> “Reset”> “Reset network settings”. Enter your PIN code and you can reset the network settings.

For an Android device like Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Note 8, etc., it's a little different from iPhone, but similar.

Go to Settings> Apps> Settings> Backup and Reset (Standard Mode Only). Tap on “Reset network settings” and confirm “Reset settings”.

Enter the PIN, password, fingerprint, or pattern, and then tap Reset Settings again to confirm.

4. Sign in to Facebook Messenger again

If the Facebook Messenger video call is still not working on your device, then you can proceed with the method below.

  • Re-login to Facebook Messenger on Android

  • First you have to log out of the app. There are no buttons to log out on Facebook Messenger, so we need to:

  • Go to Settings> Apps> Facebook Messenger and tap Clear Data. You can then log out of the app.

  • Then you need to go to the home screen and tap the messenger icon to log in again.

Re-sign in to Facebook Messenger on the iPhone

But since there is no “Clear Data” option on iPhone, iPad and iPhone to log out of Facebook Messenger on iPhone, you should log out using Facebook as Messenger is linked to Facebook. You can do the following:

1. If you don't install the Facebook app, you should download and install it on your device first

2. Go to the Facebook screen and tap the hamburger icon in the lower right corner of the screen

3. Scroll down and tap Settings> Account Settings.

4. Select "Security (Security and Login)".

5. You would see a list where you would sign in and find Facebook Messenger. Tap the nearby cross to sign out Messenger.

5. Check for updates and reinstall Messenger

The latest version of Facebook Messenger usually includes new features and fixes for known bugs. So installing the latest Facebook Messenger could be very helpful in not fixing the video calling problem.

You can first go to Settings> Apps> Facebook Messenger. Then tap on “Uninstall”. Finally, you can download the latest version from the App Store on an iOS device or Google Play on an Android device.
