What is Artificial Intelligence?

Examples are machine learning and the sub-category deep learning. Here, the functioning of the human brain is used as the basis for training computer systems. Neural networks are used to analyze large amounts of data, which are then used to cope with new situations. In most cases, human intervention is no longer necessary once the learning process has started.

Examples of artificial intelligence

Whether feeds on Twitter or Facebook: artificial intelligence has long been reflected in the algorithms of social media platforms. News and posts are highlighted in a way that suits the interests of the users. Machine learning ensures, for example, that posts from particularly good friends are prominently displayed. Alexa, Google Assistant and Co. also come from the field of artificial intelligence. By recognizing and evaluating natural language, these systems seem particularly realistic to us. By analyzing the recorded data, manufacturers also have material for continuous improvement. Another area of ​​application that may soon be commonplace is autonomous vehicles.

The use of artificial intelligence is essential for autonomous vehicles. Only through machine learning are they able to adapt to real traffic and new situations. In addition, in autonomous driving, the AI ​​must be able to record large amounts of data, evaluate it and implement it in practical actions. The rule here is that the best AI solution will prevail. There are different views on the impact of AI on the labor market. Many people already fear that computers will make their workplaces superfluous. Experts can refute this, however, because AI should and can relieve people, support them with routine tasks or be used in more dangerous work areas. The technology also creates new possibilities. Tapping into these is one of the great challenges that countries around the world will have to face in the future. In addition to revising the education system, this includes lifelong learning. But not only employees will be forced to make adjustments in the future. Companies are also faced with a variety of new situations.

Artificial intelligence in business

The use of artificial intelligence will change the economy as well as the labor market. Economic power will increasingly depend on how innovative a country is. This battle is currently being fought mainly by Asia and the United States. In terms of innovation, however, Germany is at the back of the table, which was also the topic of this year's Hannover Messe. An example: as the “World Intellectual Property Organization” found, from 2013 to 2016 more patents in the field of AI were registered than ever before. In addition to Chinese and American companies, only two German companies can be found in the first 20 positions. Siemens and Bosch were able to secure positions 11 and 19.
