Rot-Weiss Essen calls: Trainer Neidhart leaves Meppen
Third division soccer club SV Meppen has to look for a new coach. As the club announced on Friday, coach Christian Neidhart will leave the Emsländer at his own request at the end of the current season. The 51-year-old is moving to the western regional division Rot-Weiss Essen as the new head coach. "That was not planned, it just happened that way," Neidhart said in the NDR interview about the first talks with Essen. "It was a tough decision, but it has matured. And at the end of the day I want to prove to myself that I can not only Meppen but also bring another club up."
Beckmann: "As surprising as it is regrettable"
The Meppener would have liked to keep their success coach. "The fact that Christian has now approached us with this wish to change is as surprising as it is regrettable. We would have liked to continue this project with Christian," said SVM sports director Heiner Beckmann. The entire team only found out about the change shortly before the public on Friday. Neidhart had only inaugurated a small group, which also included his coaching team. Beckmann expressed understanding for "that as a coach you are looking for a new challenge after such a long time".
Neidhart: "Time for a new challenge"
"I would like to thank SV Meppen for seven really outstanding and successful years. Nevertheless, the time has now come for me to tackle a new challenge full of determination and motivation," said Neidhart. "And we don't even need to talk further about the positive emotions the name Rot-Weiss Essen triggers. I am pure anticipation."
Successor to Christian Titz in Essen
Born in Braunschweig, Neidhart moved from SV Wilhelmshaven to Meppen in 2013 and led the former second division team back to the third division four years later. He is now supposed to do the same with the Essenes. At the traditional club, the 51-year-old will succeed the former HSV coach Christian Titz, from whom RWE had officially separated only two days earlier, for the new season.
Agreement with Rot-Weiss Essen
Neidhart's contract in Meppen, which runs until 2021, will be terminated. "On behalf of SV Meppen, I would like to thank the board and management of Rot-Weiss Essen for the professional approach. Together we worked goal-oriented to find a solution that was acceptable for both clubs to fulfill Christian Neidhart's wish before the end of the contract to be able to leave the SVM, "said SVM board spokesman Andreas Kremer, indicating that a transfer fee will be paid for Neidhart. Neidhart hopes that he will be able to say goodbye to the fans after the Corona period: "I came in through the front door seven years ago and would also like to go out the front door again."
