kale soup with chorizo 2We have moved beyond a crispness in the air to a most definite chill.

Not complaining, I enjoy winter and cold weather.  I don’t enjoy shoveling snow or my car sliding on ice but we won’t think of that now.  We will think of knit hats and scarves,  wearing knee-high socks, hot toddy’s and steamy warm bowls of soup.

There is just so much orange and crispness and corduroy that makes my little heart want to burst with happiness.

muddy pup 1

Happy Friday Folks!

I don’t know about your neck of the woods but we have been drenched here.

It’s hard to be motivated when everything is so soggy and blah.

But I’m trying to take some lesson from my little pup friend.

Just get out there and play in the puddles.

So that is what I’m going to do.

Thanks muddy pup!

Oh and by get out there I mean stay dry and relatively clean working in the kitchen.

I got filthy and splashed enough playing with this guy.

Have a fantastic day all!

cabbage soup 2

What gives mother nature?

It’s still cold.

My daffodils want to know what’s up and my ankle socks say hey, were ready.

Jen fact: I can only handle two lengths of socks if any at all.

Knee-high or ankle.  Anything in-between is just weird.

Any who, I guess I’m not in a big outrage.  I’m still figuring out a good schedule for myself and I would hate to think I missed spring.

Plus the chill in the air means it is still a good time for soup!

cabbage

Huzzah for soup!

This one has a nice kick to it thanks to the mustard, ginger and caraway seeds.  Raise your hands if caraway seeds make you swoon.

No one, is that odd? I just mean that caraway seeds take whatever they’re in up to 11.  It’s a fact, you know it, it’s okay if you don’t want to say.

I would totally bring this cabbage soup to your house if you were sick. It is brothy and vegetabley and spicy and is gonna make you want to eat it everyday for lunch, I did.

You should too, even beagle was intrigued.  Silly beagle, soup is for me.  and you!

jelly donuts 2

I’ve shaken off this winter funk folks!

Sure there is a Blizzard headed this way but I embrace it.  What choice do I have?

We have our supplies.  I have my gin.  I bought flowers to make me smile.  All good here.

Do you know what turned my curmudgeonly ways around?  Do you know what caused Larry and I not to flee south and start a new life?

It was so perfect, just what a gal needs to lift her spirits.  I even made it with the last of my homemade jam.  Yay homemade jam!  I had sweet thoughts of summer and the daydreaming of this years canning have begun while it snows all around us.
